A North Texas firefighter has been arrested on allegations of online solicitation of a minor and possession of child pornography, according to Rhome Fire Rescue.

In a statement released Friday, the department said investigators with the Texas Department of Public Safety arrested Zackary Cooper, a full-time firefighter with Rhome Fire Rescue, Thursday morning.

The arrest happened around 7 a.m. on Oct. 15 at the Rhome Fire Station, officials said.

According to the department, the arrest involved allegations of online solicitation of a minor and possession of child pornography.

Following Cooper’s arrest, the City of Rhome terminated his employment with the city and Rhome Fire Rescue.

Officials confirmed Cooper is no longer employed by or affiliated with the fire department.

“Rhome Fire Rescue holds its personnel to high standards of professionalism, integrity, and public trust,” the department said in its statement. “We remain committed to serving and protecting our community and maintaining the confidence that our citizens place in our department.”

The department said the case remains an active criminal investigation and that neither Rhome Fire Rescue nor the City of Rhome will comment on the details.

“We ask the public to allow the investigative and judicial processes to proceed without speculation,” the department said.

Officials have not released additional details about the allegations and circumstances surrounding Cooper’s arrest.
