Two months after two children died in a RV fire in Liberty County, their parents are now charged with murder.

Meaghan Michelle Herrod and Matthew Chambers are both charged with two counts of felony murder. They are both being held on $1 million bonds, $500,000 for each charge.

The deadly fire happened on August 11. Firefighters with the Cleveland Fire Department responded to the fire near County Road 3189 and Highway 59 South. They arrived and found heavy fire to the RV.

After they put out the flames, firefighters discovered a 3-year-old girl and a 4-year-old boy dead inside the RV.

“During the course of the scene investigation and subsequent interviews, the information learned led to the parents being charged with Felony Murder, two counts each. The investigation was conducted by the Liberty County Fire Marshal Office with assistance from the Liberty County Sheriff Office and the Liberty County District Attorney Office,” the Liberty County Fire Marshal’s Office said.

On Friday, Oct. 9, Herrod and Chambers were arrested without incident and transported to the Liberty County Jail.
